FAQ¶
What is PowerMemory?¶
Operational memory for AI work. You save decisions, constraints, lessons, project state, and preferences into an encrypted vault, then reuse that context across Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Gemini, Copilot, and Perplexity — so you don't restart from zero every conversation.
How is this different from the memory built into ChatGPT or Claude?¶
Built-in memory is per-platform and unstructured. PowerMemory is cross-platform (one vault, six AI tools), structured (12 categories with P0–P3 priorities), and portable (export anytime). A memory saved from Claude is available in Gemini through the extension.
Which AI tools are supported?¶
- Native MCP: Claude, ChatGPT, Grok.
- Chrome extension: Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity.
See MCP Connectors and the Extension Guide.
Do I need the extension if I use Claude or ChatGPT?¶
No. Claude, ChatGPT, and Grok connect natively through MCP. The extension is for platforms that don't support MCP yet (Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity).
Is it free?¶
There's a free tier to get started. See powermemory.ai for current plans.
Is my data private?¶
Your vault is encrypted at rest (SQLCipher AES-256) and served only through your authenticated account. PowerMemory does not sell your data, share it with advertisers, show ads, or train models on your content. It is not zero-knowledge end-to-end encryption — read the honest details in Privacy & Security.
Does my AI save memories automatically?¶
Your AI can propose memories, but you stay in control — saves go through your review. Nothing is written to your vault without you.
What should I save?¶
Decisions, hard constraints, lessons, project state, and preferences — the context that changes how your AI works. Skip temporary states and chat noise. See Memory Categories.
Can I edit or delete memories?¶
Yes. Browse, edit, or delete anything from the dashboard at powermemory.ai, and export your whole vault as JSON or Markdown anytime.
What is the V POWER protocol?¶
A session workflow in the extension: START (resume context), SAVE (capture memories), STOP (close with a handover), and REFRESH (re-anchor if the AI drifts). The handover lets your next session continue exactly where the last ended. See the Extension Guide.
Is PowerMemory affiliated with Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, or xAI?¶
No. PowerMemory is an independent service. It interoperates with these platforms through open protocols and browser tooling; interoperability does not imply partnership or endorsement.
